SHARED VALUES. 5 REASONS WHY WORKING WITH A LIKE-MINDED AGENCY SHOULD BE YOUR FIRST PRIORITY
Our core values play a prominent role in the conversations we have with our clients, particularly when we are in the “getting to know you” stage.
We worked diligently to establish our core values and continue to make sure that we live by them every day. If you don’t have them by the way, or if your organization does but you don’t know them, make it a priority to make them present. Once you do, you’ll be amazed at how they help you make decisions – big and small.
So why is it important that your values are aligned with your agency? Here are a few reasons:
When your values are aligned you know you can trust the work. You know that your project is being created by people who are genuinely engaged in wanting to achieve the best possible outcomes for your hard-earned marketing dollars.
Fairness in pricing, commitment to your cause or movement, and yes even fairness in conflict resolution on those rare occasions when things don’t go as planned. What’s interesting is that when you are aligned with your core values things have a way of working out equitably on both sides of the table (mostly because you are actually working from the same side of the table).
3. COMMON GROUND
And it’s not just that you’re symbolically on the same side of the table. When you share common values, you soon discover that you have common goals as well, goals that move beyond the objective of your individual job responsibilities or even those of your organization. Core values speak to a larger world view. They inform how people should be treated, how you can make a difference, how your ethics manifest themselves, and more.
At last count, there are 4,543,576 leadership books available that talk about culture in the workplace and how contented workers are good for business. The reason for this is that it’s true. And a healthy culture starts with figuring out what you stand for as an organization. Core values based on a foundation of ethics and charity are at the heart of the matter. In our experience, you will attract like-minded business partners, vendors, clients, and loyal, talented employees.
It costs a lot when you have turn over in any aspect of business. Low morale and unhappy employees mean that you constantly have to retrain. When you lose clients or suppliers, they need to be replaced. When you share core values, you eliminate much of the turmoil surrounding managing an organization that is unstable because of these uncertainties.
Our core values were also helpful in our B Corp certification. (B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the non-profit B Lab to meet the most rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency).
Of course, you can’t be aligned on core values until you formalize your own. Give us a call and we can show you how we got to the root of ours. It’s a process worth exploring.
